TUG Cut-offs by Condition, in 60 Seconds

11.5 s in Parkinson's, 12 s in CDC STEADI, 13.5 s in older adults, 15–19 s after stroke, 24 s after hip fracture.

TUG Cut-offs by Condition, in 60 Seconds

The right TUG cut-off depends on who is tested:

  • 11.5 s in Parkinson's disease (Nocera et al., 2013).
  • 12 s in the CDC's STEADI falls screening.
  • 13.5 s in community-dwelling older adults (Shumway-Cook et al., 2000).
  • 15–19 s across studies after stroke (Matsumoto et al., 2024).
  • 24 s at discharge after hip fracture (Kristensen et al., 2007).

A slow time flags higher risk; a faster one doesn't rule falls out (Barry et al., 2014).

TUG cut-offs on a 0 to 30 second scale: healthy older adults average 8.1 to 11.3 s, Parkinson's disease 11.5 s, CDC STEADI 12 s, community-dwelling older adults 13.5 s, after stroke 15 to 19 s, after hip fracture 24 s
Published TUG cut-offs by population. A cut-off flags higher risk; it isn't a diagnosis.
