From Phone Video to Measurement, in Five Steps

How does one phone video become a gait, TUG or SPPB result? In five steps.

The short version

  • Record a short video with any phone camera.
  • Find the person being tested on every frame, even with others in view.
  • Reconstruct 30 body points in 3D, in metres, on every frame.
  • Find the events: heel strikes, the six iTUG phases, each SPPB hold and chair rise.
  • Report each measure against published norms, with a 3D replay to check it.
One stride from a real Step Doctor test shown as seven avatar poses from the side, with the right and left heel strikes marked
One stride from a real test, reconstructed in 3D from a phone video filmed from the front (from the scientific overview).

Our internal comparison with a pressure-sensor gait mat is not yet peer-reviewed; we'll publish the method and results.
